Online Manuscript
Submission and Peer Review. Taylor &
Francis, a leading international
academic publisher, now have a
vacancy for a Publishing Editor
within the Journals division at the
Publishing Editor grade in the
science and technical editorial
team.
Working with the Journals Editorial
and Electronic Manuscript Management
(EMS) teams, and reporting to the
Managing Editors for in-house peer
review, the PE’s role is to operate
Taylor & Francis’s online manuscript
submission and tracking system
Manuscript Central ™, and provide
assistance for the Editors and
Associate Editors of a number of
international peer-reviewed
scientific journals. This position
involves liaising with academic
Editors in the UK and overseas and
dealing with enquiries from authors
and referees of papers by email and
telephone.
| Key Duties and Responsibilities: |
Ø
Management of
online manuscript tracking systems
Ø
Monitoring and
structuring of the online systems
through
creation, when necessary, of accounts and roles
for
authors, referees, Associate Editors and Editors
Ø
Maintaining the
databases through corrections,
elimination
of duplicate entries etc.
Ø
Updating the
keyword lists and other aspects of
the systems
Electronic receipt and processing of manuscripts
Ø
Checking
author-generated data entries and
electronic files of
manuscripts
Ø
Assigning
manuscripts to Editors, Associate
Editors or
Editorial Board members as appropriate
Ø
Providing
assistance, when required, to
authors in using the
systems, particularly in uploading of manuscripts
Ø
Providing
assistance, when required, to
referees in using the
systems, making special arrangements if
appropriate
Ø
Checking revised
manuscripts before transfer to the
Production
department Assistance for Editors
Ø
Routine operation
of the online systems
Ø
Assisting Editors
with correspondence (i.e. emails
exchanged
with authors, referees and other Editors or
Editorial Board
members)
Ø
Regular reporting
on manuscript flow and other aspects
of the
systems
Ø
Maintaining
electronic and hard copy archives
Ø
Liaison, when
required, on the assignment of
Editors, Associate
Editors, Editorial Board members and referees
Ø
Assistance with
compilation of statistics and
preparation of
reports for editorial meetings
Ø
Liaison with
Editors
Ø
Operating a ‘help
desk’ for queries about the online
systems
Ø
Maintaining
contact with, and training of, guest
editors for
special issues
Ø
Liaison with
other departments within Taylor &
Francis
Ø
Trouble-shooting
problems with the online systems
Ø
Assistance with
the preparation of publicity
material
Ø
Liaison regarding
editorial meetings
| The Candidate: |
The successful
candidate should ideally be educated
to degree level or equivalent and be
willing to learn. Good communication
and computer skills (Microsoft
Office), and a familiarity with
online technologies would be useful.
The position would suit someone
looking for a first job in academic
publishing.
