The School of Materials wishes to appoint a suitably qualified and highly motivated individual as a Technician for the EPSRC-funded Manchester X-ray Imaging Facility (MXIF) based at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratories (RAL), Oxfordshire. The MXIF is unique in the UK, developing and applying novel tomographic imaging experiments and analysis for applications across a range of engineering applications.
The Facility has two sites, with laboratory scale tomographic instruments at the University of Manchester, while the RAL based facility is focused on developing in situ experiments for applications on the Diamond Light Source Synchrotron, as well as Neutron and Laser applications.
You will be located at the RAL site, supporting and developing novel in situ environmental stages, X-ray detectors, and tomographic instruments. You will also carry out experiments, maintain the hardware and software. You will work as part of a dynamic resident team (one dozen PhD level researchers), together with visiting scientists and PhD students. You will also act as an interface to visiting scientists/academics from the University of Manchester, and other collaborators.
