| Purpose of the Job: | To provide Achilles Information with effective design/deployment and maintenance of SQL Server databases |

Key responsibilities |
|
·
Optimisation and monitoring of database servers including
capacity planning and performance
·
Assisting with database design in collaboration with
application
developers
·
Management and maintenance of data, including backups, data
fixes, replication, restoration and high
availability of operational
systems
·
Configuration and management of security of company servers,
including troubleshooting
·
Capacity planning for the deployment of database servers
across
the organisation
·
Installation and configuration of database services within
Achilles
and with our ISP
·
Liaise with other DBA’s across the Achilles Group offices to
share knowledge and provide mutual support.
·
Assistance to network engineers where appropriate
·
Work within framework of corporate standards and policies and
contribute to their on going development,
particularly in change
management and change control

The post holder should be smartly presented, confident and an excellent communicator.

Knowledge and Skills: |
Expertise in:
·
Database design implications of operational infrastructure
·
Database performance tuning demonstrable by experience
·
DR Planning and Recovery
Proficiency (typically 3 years relevant commercial development
experience):
·
Preferably demonstrated by MS Certified or proven completion
of MS accredited training but this is not
essential
·
Microsoft/Intel environments
·
Database software (DBA) - tools, techniques and architecture
·
Relevant Programming Languages and environments - SQL Server
2000/2005/2008, Win 2003/2008
·
Relevant International and/or Industry Standards and
Guidelines
·
Production and maintenance of documentation
·
SQL Server Reporting Services
Familiar with:
·
A variety of application types such as Internet, intranet or
e-commerce business systems
·
Information capture techniques
·
Middleware
·
SQL Server Analysis Services
·
Project planning and the role of project management
·
Quality management issues

Person specification: |
The post holder should have good interpersonal skills and be an effective team player. It is essential to be able to communicate, both orally and in writing. Meticulous documentation and process will help when managing tasks around the team.
It is important the post holder is self-motivated and can show enthusiasm and commitment for the key areas of responsibility. They should be able to make evident a forward thinking approach as it will be imperative to find solutions to issues which will mean working proactively.
They should be able to demonstrate an ability to deal with customers; presentational skills and sound planning and organisational skills. Effective personal time management is essential. A good team player is required who seeks to involve others at all times.

| There may be an occasional requirement to work beyond contracted hours and working at other offices, so mobility and a clean driving license would be preferable. | ||
